1990 Pro Set Team Owner and Employee Sets
Updated October 14, 2012
Description: The complete sets were given out to owners of NFL teams in 2 binders, Series I and II. The Series I binder, made by Wilson, has 400 cards and features the same material used to make footballs. I have no information on the Series II binder at this time. The errror binder was supposedly passed out to employees of Pro Set as a novelty to show off their incompetence (I had to do it!). UPDATE: Talked to a person that has one of the Owners Editions as well as the errors and variations (could be a different year). Waiting to hear back with pics. He also has the Owners edition of the Lombardi hologram! (yep! I am jealous as hell :D). UPDATE2: Seems the owners edition contains 2 unique cards not found anywhere else (see the pic below, Top Left of cards. That seems to be one...?). Still patiently waiting for pics!

No Picture of the 1990 Employee Errors and Variations binder yet, but it is also most probably made by Wilson and feature the same grain and appearance as the Owners Edition binder.
Notes: There is an "Owners Edition" Lombardi Hologram. The picture I found is terrible (can't read the back), so it stays unpictured for the moment. Also, the Owners Edition picture baffles me. All insertes are pictured, but the original poster says it is Series I. And the offer card from the Super Bowl Silver Anniversary 160 Set is also pictured. If you have any information on these items described above, please email me or post!
I have a binder here.it says Wilson PRO/SET the complete 1990 NFL PRO SET Owners Edition Volume II
ReplyDeleteWould you be willing to take a few pictures for me to use? If so, please email them to 1990proset@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteHi, I have Vol I and II of the owners set, and could take pics (soon). Have you heard more about the error/variation binder? Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI actually have a few pictures already of the binder since one just sold on eBay (i didn't win and it was shilled). But I would love pictures of the explanation cards (the white ones explaining the variations).
ReplyDeleteI have not gotten any new information on the 1990 Errors and Variations Binder yet! I will update the pages soon with any new information.
I purchased a Lombardi Hologram Owner's Edition Proof and have sent it to PSA for authentication. Any information about owner's edition origins would be appreciated to assist in authentication-redhashman111@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteHello Robert,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to share after seeing these binders up close that there are a lot of the description cards (like in the 1989 version) but dont think any of the actual cards are any different. Probably the more unique think (imo) is another version of the Santa Christmas card. I guess it would still be considered 1990 but a version 2. There was also some extra sheets left blank, for adding the final update set, which I guess kinda shows when the binders were made. --- still trying to hunt down the rumors of a 1990 Errors binder and a 1991 Owners binder
Does anyone know which series the Lombardi hologram us in for the owners edition? Just wanting to know as my series 1 came with the series 2 inserts is Santa etc
ReplyDeleteThe owner editions are split weirdly, the ones I had have the inserts plus series 1 and some cards from series 2, series 2 has the rest of the set but includes a header card and spots for the final update set, this is followed by the silver anniversary set and then the collect-a-books set
ReplyDeleteHi. I recently found a 1990 Pro Set OWNER'S EDITION Volume I and Volume II Collection in 2 separate Wilson Football Hide Leather Albums. There's a cover letter addressed to NFL Football Hall of Famer Ed Sabol (of NFL Films Fame), so apparently SOME league dignitaries also got a gift set. In fact, I also have the dated (12/18/90) "BOX the cherry came in", i.e., the original Fed Ex box from NFL Properties Inc to Ed Sabol c/o NFL Films. The albums have a variety of items besides the garden-variety base set. I'm not a total mercenary, but I really have no interest in the set, but as an avid collector/researcher, I'd be willing to share details on the contents for others who care. Thanks, Ed Dolan baseaball@aol.com
